New Routines

Back in September, I wrote the short passage below. I had intended to post it but never got around to it. You see a couple of things happened then, distractions, mostly high drama, but here I am slowly coming back to life. Looking at a new rhythm for island living.

Scott gets up early to work, and Rocky and I wake not too long after. I make coffee, journal, or catch up on a show, and we head out for a walk. The walks can vary, but mostly they include a walk on the beach and through the neighborhood. We are often doing a mile loop, which is a great way to start the day.

This week has been a very activating week (I know, it's just Tuesday). It started with setting up several appointments, including a dentist appointment and one to get our new blinds put in. Both of these feel like “real life” and therefore transition my brain into acknowledging that we are home here on the island. I’ve started to set goals. Some are super short-term, and others are starting to be a little further out on the horizon.

As these plans continue to unfold, I’ll be happy to clue you in. Though, in the meantime I wonder, how are you hoping to finish out the year? Do you have things that you’d like to accomplish to be able to feel good about 2022? It doesn’t have to be something big; it can be as simple as buying a notebook, cutting your hair, or clearing out a drawer. If you feel good about 2022, then congrats, you can coast into the new year. I for one will continue to focus on this vision for 2023 and beyond.

As always, be well, be safe, be free!

It’s time to rest, the house is packed up, and all that’s being left behind for the estate sale is ready to go. The house isn’t even ours anymore. I now sit and wait, wait for the movers to pick up our things, wait for Scott to get back from a boys' weekend, I wait the week where we are in limbo not quite without a home but in an in-between state.

Rocky and I are grounded, we can’t hike and enjoy the outdoors because it is completely logged with smoke here in Tahoe. It feels like the Sierras are kicking us out. A deceased bat in the toilet, a bird colliding with a window, and now the smoke. I am grateful for the summer we had, whereby we were warm and smoke-free. I got to enjoy the surrounding area which was a phenomenal way to say goodbye.

And so now, I rest. Perhaps a little reading, maybe a little napping? Who knows, but here I am, waiting. I’m not good at waiting, but I will try.

Until next time, be well, be safe, be free!
